Those glass bangles

Age- 6 months old

The first time she wore glass bangles was when she was six months old, from what her Amma had told her. She still has the picture of her in front of Guruvayoor temple from her choorunu ceremony. She was seen spotting tiny karivalas or black bangles that are adorned on the hands of new born babies.

Age- 5 years old

She was gifted a set of bright pink glass bangles when she was five years old. This time, it was gifted to her by her best friend. He had accompanied his big sister to the famous Ultsavam and asked her to buy a set for her as well. She loved it at once, especially the sound that came when she moved her hands.

Age- 12 years old

She was a big girl now, or so her Amma and Ammaamma admonished her. She could no longer wear those short skirts and frocks that were so familiar to her. Nor was she allowed to hang out with Him for long. When she was gifted expensive clothes & jewelry, it was the dozen bottle green glass bangles that He gave her, with a shy smile, that made her feel all grown up. Did she glimpse something else in his eyes for a second in his eyes? Those glass bangles were like a soothing balm to the inner pain and turmoil that she felt with the responsibility of growing into a woman.

Age- 18 years old

Finally, they arrived at an age which they have been waiting for quite some time now. It was blood red glass bangles that He gave her on her Eighteenth birthday. When he took her hands and slid on the bangles on her slender wrists, she felt something go all strange and mushy inside her. The glass bangles played a pleasant music when he took her hands and kissed her. Her first kiss. Those bangles were the witness of their blossoming love.

Age- 22 years old

She was getting married today. Fine jewelry adorned her neck, hands and fingers. Elders blessed her abundantly, lest she got the evil eye, for she truly looked like a Devi, a Goddess decked in the deep red saree that accentuated her curves and enhanced her femininity. When she insisted on wearing her old red glass bangles, she got scolded severely, for why wear the cheap stuff when she had bangles made from gold and precious stones?

After she got married and left for her husband's house, for that was her house from now, her kohl rimmed eyes blurred from unshed tears as they turned back and searched silently for the person who had given those priceless glass bangles to her.

Age- 25 years old

She was said to be found lying in a pool of blood when they found her. Some say it was a murder, others say she died of a broken heart. But some say that the injuries found on her wrists were self inflicted by something sharp. When they opened her lifeless fingers that were curled around something, there were shards of broken glass bangles found inside the folds of her hand. Whether they were red glass bangles or tainted red by her blood, it was hard to know.

A broken melody

In you I live a thousand lives
In you I die a thousand times
Your breath on my cheek
Your fingers in my hair
I am reminded of a broken melody
A long lost dream
Of lovers torn apart
In you I have my heart healed
Sweet nothings
Shattered dreams
Broken promises
A heart estranged
In you I hear a broken melody
That sings to me...

Things to do on a Rainy day

Today, I was the lucky one who encountered an unexpected downpour. This got me thinking about the things to do on a rainy day. Though I was stuck in office and could hardly do any of these things, I hope to do these on another rainy day.

  • Read a book- make that a lovey dovey romantic one. What better way to start off a rainy day than by reading your favorite novel cuddled up in your bed?
  • Hot coffee/ tea- Drinking hot tea/ coffee, depending on your taste, and by hot I mean scalding your tongue hot. Have it on your balcony (if you have) or just watching the rain sitting on your verandah!
  • Go for a long drive- Yes, it can be a very lazy feeling just dragging your bum out of your cozy room, but make an effort & go for a drive (by yourself or with someone special- both are equally rewarding!). And if you have a bike, all the more better. Getting drenched in a drizzle on a bike is an awesome feeling.
  • Hot samosas- Thankfully, I can tick off this one today. Yes, nothing beats eating hot samosas and chili cutney on a rainy morning. Extra spice, extra nice! All crunchy snacks like Vadas, Pazhampori (aka Banana fry) are a must for rainy days.
  • Sleep- In case you are stuck at home without any electricity and its really too dark to read, sleep. Yes, leave your windows open so that that gentle breeze can play with your hair, lulling you to a dreamless sleep.
  • Watch your favorite movie- Watch Notting Hill/ P.S. I love you/ Sleepless in Seattle/  Serendipity/ your favorite. My list is endless.
  • Spend time with your loved ones. Catch up on lost time with an old friend. Pick up your phone & speak to your parents. Spread the love!
  • Last, but not the least, just let it be and enjoy the weather!

Lots of love,

Love me till the end

I am a mess, a broken part
A dried up well,
A lost boat
Would you love me till the end?

I am a shadow
Your conscience
Always will be a part of you
Would you love me till the end?

I am a broken rainbow
A starless sky
The wind before the rains
Would you love me till the end?

What doesn't break you, makes you

From experience I can say that what doesn't break you, makes you YOU. Yes, you, the wonderful person that you are today is all thanks to those bad past experiences - be it in love, in friendship or all the relationships that you have had. Memories, good or bad, mould us into the persons we are today. Love, lots and lots of it when we were young. When it's taken away from us one fine day, a little something dies in our heart. But then again, it could've just shaped us better for the world that we have to live in.

My mistakes make me. My imperfections make me. I may take the wrong decisions every once in a while, but in the end, I know that I have come out at least a little wiser, a little humble. Like the surface of a wood rubbed by sandpaper.

I have dreams, hopes even. Maybe all of them are not meant to be, but maybe it's simply the belief that keeps me going. So let us take a moment to thank everyone, yes the ones who have broken your heart, those fake friends, those nosy relatives, those jealous neighbors. Had it been not for them, your life would have been a very boring place to be!

A woman possessed

Eyes ablaze, lips a fiery red
Free flowing jet black curls
A powerful stare she had
They called her a woman possessed

Darkness surrounded her
Hope seems desolate
A dreary future, friends none
Except for the pet snake she had
Was she really a woman possessed?

Wandering alone past midnight
Mostly draped in a blood red saree
Was she Kali reincarnated
Or simply a woman possessed?

It was a dark and stormy night
Cries were heard from her hut
But none dared go there alone
The morning after, all they found
Were the skin shed by a snake
And no trace of her whatsoever

Was she Maya or simply a woman possessed ?

One of those days

It was simply one of those days, when nothing goes right from the moment you open your eyes. Despite the fact that it was a weekend, meaning no 'office' work. But somehow, it ended up being a screwed up day. One of the first things was that my laptop had to go all blue screen and weird on me, just when it was weekend. Add to that the endless house chores that had to be taken care of, my day just got better and better.

I know I should be talking about the silver linings, but Sorry, am way too pissed off for even that. Even now, as I type this post (On safe mode - How depressing is that?, the keys are acting all weird and my words are going haywire. Aaaarghhhh!!!!

And so today, I was on my Bridget Jones mode, wallowing in self pity and eating chocolates and more chocolates and how my life was kind of pointless right now. Ok, I better stop now, before I make a complete fool of myself.

Hope your day went much more eventful than mine did! Adios until next time....
